60 crew members and 20 film extras will descend on Afflecks to commence filming ‘Spike Island’ a Film 4 production for cinema release.
Spike Island is a coming of age drama that takes place over 72 hours in May 1990 in Salford and Manchester. The film is a fictional story set against a real event – The Stone Roses, Spike Island Concert that took place in Widnes in 1990.
Spike Island follows the journey of five 16 year old boys who are die-hard fans of The Stone Roses; they celebrate the end of their school days and make plans to attend the legendary concert. The journey sees life-long friendships tested and their future bought in to question.
Elliott Tittensor, best known as Carl Gallagher from Shameless plays the lead character and will be filmed entering Afflecks along with his 4 screen character friends, they will be filmed in the café area and then in various locations on the 2ndfloor. Decoration and props will take Afflecks back to how it would have looked in 1990 and various stall holders will be dressed to play extra’s in the movie.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Afflecks, The Stone Roses used to meet here as did many music legends from around that time.
The team and all the Afflecks stall holders are really excited about the filming and will be looking forward to seeing Afflecks on the big screen this autumn.<< Back to Blog
